Brunswick County woman wins $100,000 Powerball prize
LELAND, NC (WWAY) -A big payday, just in time for the holidays.
Serena Perkins of Leland won $100,000 in Wednesday’s Powerball drawing.
She beat the odds of 1 in 913,129.
According to a news release from the NC Education Lottery, Perkins claimed her prize Thursday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh. After required state and federal tax withholdings, she received $69,250.
She bought the $3 Power Play ticket at the Circle K on U.S. 17 in Hampstead.
The numbers matched four white balls and the Powerball to win $50,000. The prize doubled when the 2X multiplier was drawn for Power Play tickets.
The jackpot for Saturday’s drawing has reached $85 million with an estimated lump sum of $51.3 million.
Ticket sales from games like Powerball made it possible for the lottery to raise more than $634 million dollars for the state last year.
