FALSE ALARM: Brunswick Nuclear Plant warning siren accidentally activated

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — If you heard the sirens around the Brunswick Nuclear Plant go off this morning it was a false alarm.

The North Carolina Emergency Management Agency issued a “Civil Emergency” message for Brunswick and New Hanover counties. It said part of the siren alert system within the 10 mile emergency planning zone of Duke Energy’s Brunswick Nuclear Plant accidentally activated earlier Thursday morning.

A Brunswick Nuclear Plant spokeswoman said in an e-mail that the siren went off at Caswell Beach. She said the plant is operating safely and there is no emergency.
