Brunswick, Columbus break ground on International Logistics Park
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Rain did not stop Columbus County and Brunswick County from breaking ground on a new development this morning. They met on the county line joined by Rep. Mike McIntyre, the Secretary of Commerce Keith Crisco and NC Port Authority CEO Tom Eagar. The group broke ground on the International Logistics Park.
The park will encourage distribution warehousing for the port in Wilmington and promote light industry in the area.
“It provides some great opportunities for jobs and increasing our tax base, but right now we are concentrating on jobs, because there is such a high unemployment rate in the area,” Brunswick County Economic Development Director Jim Bradshaw said.
Bradshaw has been working on the project for two and a half years. He said the road to the park should be completed by early next year. Water is already at the site, and Brunswick County is extending the sewer line to the park.
