Brunswick County adult female confirmed with H1N1

The H1N1 influenza virus has officially made it’s way to Brunswick County. Another case of swine flu has been confirmed by the health department; this time in an adult.

A private health care provider notified the health department of a female patient with swine flu. This case brings the state total to 83 confirmed cases. It also comes just a day after the World Health Organization declared H1N1 as a world wide pandemic.

“We’re all at risk. Once there is a confirmed case in North Carolina then everybody becomes at risk,” said Brunswick County Deputy Health Director Fred Michael. “Certain areas have it more just because people have been sick and are spreading it, but we all have to stay vigilant.”

The health department is urging anyone who is experiencing flu-like symptoms to stay home.
