Brunswick County has plans for Shallotte rescue squad

SHALLOTTE — Brunswick County has come up with a plan to take over the financially-strapped Shallotte Volunteer Rescue Squad.

The county will create a community emergency response team largely made up of squad members.

The Shallotte rescue squad got into financial trouble with its new building, which the county plans to take over.

Things came to a head when the squad’s workers compensation insurance lapsed and the county ordered members to stop responding to calls.

Under this new plan the Shallotte rescue squad must first formally dissolve then the county can take over.
