Brunswick County man receives state’s highest honor
A Brunswick County man who has made his mark on the local community college system received the state’s highest civilian honor today – The Order of the Long Leaf Pine.
Joseph Gore wasn’t able to be at the ceremony in person because of illness, but his longtime friend Herbert Williams accepted the award on his behalf.
Before moving back to Brunswick County, Gore was a college president and a vice president of academic affairs.
He has volunteered with Brunswick Community College for the past ten years, and is dedicated to student success.
Gore has also worked with the South Brunswick Island Rotary Club, the Brunswick County Parks and Recreation Division, and the North Carolina Coastal Resources Commission.
