Brunswick County residents could get new tax
BRUNSWICK COUNTY — Brunswick county residents could soon be hit with another tax. County commissioners are considering putting a land transfer tax on the November ballot.
The 0.4 percent tax would be levied on folks selling homes or land in Brunswick County.
For instance, someone who sold a $200,000 house would have to pay the county $800 in taxes.
The tax would generate an estimated $14 million a year — money commissioners could use for things like road improvements.
Next week commissioners are expected to discuss whether to put the land transfer tax on the ballot.
