Brunswick County school district earns nation accreditation

BOLIVIA — The Brunswick County school district is back in the headlines, this time for earning a national accreditation from an education coalition called “Advanced.”

The district earned the accreditation after a team from the coalition visited schools last February.

The team bases their decision on seven standards, including leadership and quality of a school support system.

We called the organization today to ask if Advanced considered the three pending lawsuits against the district and the cases of alleged sexual misconduct involving school employees.

Association president Mark Elgard says those incidents came after the February visit and the district will have to report them in a progress report due this spring.
