Drug bust in Brunswick County leads to marijuana camp
“The operation here consisted of planting, growing and harvesting the marijuana itself, and from here, go out and be processed further,” said one undercover detective.
Buried deep in the woods of Brunswick County, detectives uncovered 22 planters, each filled with four or five marijuana plants. Along with the plants they found a tent to dry the plants and another tent to sleep in.
One undercover detective said, “Everything here is self-sufficient. Everything they would to conduct this operation is on site.”
Detectives said the growers used a pipe to pump water from a nearby swamp to water all of the plants.
The length of the plant stalks, and remnants of older branches lead detectives to believe that the operation has been going on for at least a year. They said whoever is responsible for growing these plants, knows a lot about the process.
Deputies cut the plants down at the stalk then carried them out of the woods, to be counted and eventually destroyed.
Acting on a tip, investigators spotted the camp from the sheriff’s new helicopter. Anyone with information about the camp and who may have run it should call the sheriff’s office at 253-2700.
