Brunswick County students perform holiday concert
WACCAMAW — Some Brunswick County students got people in the holiday spirit Tuesday night. The sixth through eighth graders at Waccamaw School performed their holiday concert called a Christmas portrait.
Waccamaw School seventh grader Alex Jeffries said, “We’re here performing our Christmas program and we’re here to play, have fun, and have a good time.”
The concert was held at the Odell Williamson auditorium at Brunswick Community College.
Alex said, “Everyday we go in our classroom and we practice in band and stuff, and it’s hard, some of the music’s hard but we finally got it.”
Odell Williamson Auditorium Director Mike Sapp said, “It’s sort of a report card, if you will, to the parents, of what’s going on in their classroom and the things that they’ve learned — especially in the band side of things, because in the sixth grade band these kids have never picked up an instrument before they walked into the classroom.”
Alex said, “It’s exciting. I see everyone that’s coming to see us play and stuff, to see all the good work we do.”
Parent Christopher Russ said, “It makes you proud. Anytime you see your child go up there and perform and do their best and do a good job of it, it’s rewarding.”
