Brunswick County teacher wins national website award
A Brunswick County teacher has won a national award for her website.
Julie Sloup, a teacher at Virginia Williamson Elementary, won the second annual SchoolCenter Imaginative Classroom Contest. Winners were chosen according to pre-defined criteria: usability, student interaction and engagement and parental involvement and communication.
Sloup beat out about 300 other teachers with a playful and interactive website that includes a “Digital Detectives” section, where students use suggested databases to answer engaging questions and submit their answers through the site. The site also hosts a “Battle of the Books” contest where students can discuss their favorite books on an online discussion board. Other features include fun survey questions each month, website feedback features and useful student resources for course assignments.
