Brunswick, Pender County voters to decide land tax

To tax or not to tax? Voters in Brunswick County will decide this November.

Specifically, residents will have the opportunity to vote on a 0.4 percent land transfer tax.
Brunswick County commissioners unanimously approved the ballot item Monday night.

If the tax is approved the owner of a $200,000 house would have to pay $800 in taxes.

Pender County residents will have a similar item on their ballot in November. Commissioners there would use money from a land transfer tax to generate more revenue for local schools.

The 0.4 percent tax could bring in almost $3 million a year.
