Building green can be affordable

Contrary to popular belief, building green does not necessarily mean spending green.

Wilmington home builder, Robin Hackney, said building green is a lot easier than most people think. It does not necessarily involve wind turbines and solar panels, which can get expensive. Less elaborate green homes simply use recycled materials.

“Now we can offer that same program that custom builders have been offering for a while and we can bring it to the affordable housing,” said Hackney.

Robin Hackney said she is sold green homes recently for under $300,000.

Other builders we spoke to agreed that building green will be the norm before we know it.
