Burgaw police break up ruckus

BURGAW, NC (WWAY) — According to the Burgaw Police Department, officers responded to a call on Johnson Street Sunday afternoon where they found a large crowd. Officers attempted to disperse the crowd but, the group refused to obey lawful orders.

Authorities say the crowd became very hostile and aggressive. Police say the crowd began throwing rocks at the officers while they were arresting someone.

Multiple agencies responded including the Pender County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina Highway Patrol and the Wallace Police Department.

No names are being released as officers are continuing the investigation.
