ONLY ON 3: Burgaw resident raises concerns over school bus safety
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Pender County man is worried about the safety of children after having what he calls several close encounters on the road with a school bus.
Burgaw resident Earl Lewis said he’s been trying to get someone’s attention on the issue since September.
Lewis said he, his wife, and neighbors have been run off the road multiple times by a school bus driving over the double yellow line. When it kept happening, he decided to record the bus he passes almost every morning on Whitestocking Road.
Lewis said he took complaints to the county’s transportation division earlier in the school year, but nothing has changed. He said he just worries for the children’s safety.
“Well, the kids are our future and we need to take care of them,” Lewis said. “This is dangerous for the children and it’s dangerous for us.”
In an e-mail, the Pender County School system tells WWAY they are looking into the issue.
“Pender county schools takes bus driver complaints seriously and investigates all concerns received from members of the community,” said communications coordinator Miranda Roberts. “This matter is currently under
investigation.”
