Burke County teacher facing child porn charges

HILDEBRAN, NC (AP) — A third grade Burke County teacher is facing charges he was part of a global child pornography ring.

Sheriff’s deputies say 54-year-old Michael Andrew Alexander was arrested Wednesday on charges including first-degree sexual offense of a child and sexual exploitation of a minor.

Authorities investigating child pornography in Spain say they found images they believe had been sent by Alexander. Investigators say a child in one video had on a T-shirt from Hildebran Elementary School – the same school where Alexander has taught for seven years.

Authorities say Alexander made copies of sexual videos involving children and engaged in a sex act with a girl under the age of 13.

An attorney has been appointed for Alexander, who is jailed on $1 million bond. He’s due in court July 3.
