Burr says he’d accept vice presidential nomination

RALEIGH (AP) — North Carolina Senator Richard Burr says he would accept a spot on John McCain’s presidential ticket if asked by the Arizona senator.

Burr has joined McCain on the campaign trail several times, stumping for him in places like Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. Burr and his wife were with McCain on Super Tuesday and the two senators often discuss strategy and policy together.

The first-term Republican from Winston-Salem told The Associated Press today his advocacy of McCain is not an audition. Burr says he’s simply trying to get the best candidate elected.

McCain is the leading candidate for the Republican nomination. Burr endorsed McCain last March.

Burr and McCain do disagree on some issues, including campaign finance reform and some aspects of immigration reform.
