Burr to replace Craig on Veterans’ panel

WASHINGTON (AP) — North Carolina Senator Richard Burr will replace Idaho Senator Larry Craig as the Veterans' Affairs Committee's top Republican.

Craig is fighting charges stemming from a Minneapolis sex sting.

Craig was pressured by GOP leaders to step down last month following his guilty plea in an airport sex sting. He is now trying to get a judge to reverse that plea. Craig has said he intends to resign from the Senate on September 30th.

Burr has been a member of Veterans' Affairs since 2005. He says he will work to ensure veterans get the best health care and services possible.
