Buses donated to take teachers to Raleigh, teachers wear #RedForEd

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Transportation offered the New Hanover County Association of Educators buses to take teachers to Raleigh Wednesday morning.

One of the buses loaded up at the old K-Mart parking lot on South College Road. Another left from Hanover Center near O2 Fitness.

The buses loaded up around 6:45 a.m. and then left for Raleigh with about 100 teachers. Almost all of the teachers were wearing red. The bus had lettering on its side that read #RedForEd.

Barbara Anderson with the New Hanover County Association of Educators said they plan to be back around 7 p.m. Anderson said this is just the first day of its kind where teachers will make their voices heard, but she said it will not be the only day.

Anderson said she expects a massive turnout from teachers all over the state. She also said they are not just fighting for more teacher pay, but also more resources for schools and students.

We will have much more on this story throughout the day. WWAY’s Kirsten Gutierrez will be live in Raleigh at noon on WWAY CBS and throughout the evening.
