Business holds electronics recycling event

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — How many of us have old TVs, computers and laptops collecting dust at home? Your Computer Friends is encouraging people to recycle old electronics.

The Wilmington computer repair shop hosted their bi-annual electronics drop off today. Store owner Susan Kadar says recycling electronics that are no longer being used can be good for the environment and lessens the use of our resources.

“All of the equipment that we’re collecting here is sorted based on its metal and content and then its re-purposed into other things, soda bottles, yoga mats and things like that. So everything here being crushed,” Kadar said.

Kadar says they collect electronics twice a year, a few days in September and a few days in February. More than 40 thousands pounds of equipment were dropped off during this year’s collection.
