A busy few days for thrift stores donations

It’s a busy few days for thrift stores donations. The parking lot at Goodwill was packed Wednesday with people dropping off clothes, electronics and other items to write them off on their 2009 tax return. Employees say it’s been non-stop writing receipts for donations.

Goodwill takes everything but mattresses and large appliances, as long as it’s in good condition. The donated items are then sold in the store.

“This is such a win-win situation for everyone it’s a great tax write off, but its great for us because everything that we do goes right back into the community,” Becky Lytle of Goodwill Industries of eastern N.C. said.

92 cents of every dollar from items sold at Goodwill go toward funding its programs. The Goodwill on South Kerr in Wilmington will be open today for donations from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
