Cage Fighting Returns to Wilmington
Mixed martial arts cage fighting is a combination of each discipline of martial arts, or you could say there are four different ways to get beat up. Cage fighting has been legal in North Carolina for seven months. Several cities have hosted events over the past few months. Now it’s Wilmington’s turn thanks to the man who made it legal here, promoter Doug Muhle. “A lot of NC residents don’t realize how many great martial artists we have here in eastern North Carolina and how many guys are ranked and they’ve never been able to fight at home.”
Fight night in Wilmington will be Saturday July 19. Muhle expects a sell out at the Schwartz Center. Jeremy Owens, co-owner of the Evolution Gym in Wrightsville Beach says: “This is something the Wilmington area has desperately been wanting for quite some time, and now they’ll be able to witness mixed martial arts live.”
There will be a handful of Wilmington residents cage fighting on Saturday. They’ll be joined by several fighters from outside the region as well. There’s no truth to the rumor that WWAY’s John Rendleman will be fighting, or is there? Check out the video of our story to see for yourself.
