Calabash bank robbery suspect arrested in South Carolina
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office says the man who robbed a Calabash bank last week is in custody in South Carolina.
A sheriff’s spokeswoman says the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and Coastal Carolina University Public Safety helped Brunswick County Sheriff’s detectives in the arrest of Kevin Michael Riera, 21, late Monday afternoon.
Riera is accused of robbing the PNC Bank on Beach Drive in Calabash Friday morning.
Warrants show Riera got away with $2,500 from an employee inside the bank.
Deputies say Riera was arrested at his home on Highway 544 in Conway, SC. They say he is being held in the J. Reuben Long Detention Facility in Horry County, SC.
Riera will remain in South Carolina until he is brought back to North Carolina, where he will be formally charged with common law robbery and second degree kidnapping, according to the spokeswoman.
