Calabash commissioner facing assault charge


BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Calabash Mayor Pro-tem Joseph “Jody” Nance is accused of assaulting and threatening a neighbor.

According to a warrant taken out by the alleged victim, Nance is accused of hitting the victim on the left side of the face and right cheek.

Nance is also accused of threatening to “kick his ***.”

The alleged assault happened May 1. The warrant was taken out a few days later.  According to the warrant, Nance and the victim live on the same road, just a couple of houses away from each other.

Nance was arrested May 8 for simple assault and communicating threats.

Nance’s term on the Board of Commissioners expires in December.

When reached by phone, Nance said he has retained an attorney and has no comment until the court date.

His court date is scheduled for June 2.
