Camp Lejeune updates guest access rules for July 4 Independence Day celebration

Camp Lejeune, NC (WWAY) — Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune has updated guest access procedures for its annual Independence Day Celebration, allowing eligible Department of War-affiliated personnel to escort guests onto the installation without advance registration.
The updated procedures apply to the July 4th celebration and are intended to simplify entry for eligible guests while maintaining base security.
Beginning at 2 p.m. on July 4th, Department of War-affiliated personnel and their escorted guests may enter the installation through Wilson Gate, Holcomb Gate, Camp Johnson Gate or Sneads Ferry Gate.
Under the updated policy, U.S. citizens age 18 and older who hold a Department of War Common Access Card, dependent ID or retiree ID may escort up to five guests onto the installation. Friends of Lejeune Defense Biometric Identification System personnel may escort only their spouse.
Escorts and guests must arrive in the same vehicle. Guests age 18 and older must present a valid photo ID at the gate, while children 17 and younger do not need identification if accompanied by an adult escort.
Officials said vehicles will be denied entry if all adult occupants do not provide valid identification.
Advance online guest registration is no longer required for escorted access during the event. Escorts are responsible for their guests’ conduct and must maintain visual contact with them while on the installation.
In a statement, Col. Gregory B. Pace, commander of Marine Corps Installations East–Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, said the changes are intended to make it easier for Marines, sailors, families, retirees and civilian employees to celebrate with guests while continuing to prioritize installation security.
