CANDIDATE PROFILE: Alvin Rogers wants to ease traffic congestion as city grows
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington business owner Alvin Rogers is ready to take his experience as a life-long Wilmington resident to city hall as a part of the city council. The appliance repair shop owner plans to fix up the Port City one city project at a time.
“I am a problem solver, if something needs to be done, you figure out how to do it and get it done,” said Rogers.
Council candidate Alvin Rogers has lived in Wilmington his whole life and as the owner of an appliance repair shop he says he knows how to fix things.
“I might not have the answer but there’s always a way to find out the answer,” said Rogers.
Rogers says he’s been looking for the answer when it comes road congestion in his neighborhood on South College and Oleander. His solution is making portions of Kerr Avenue and South College one-way streets.
“One-way traffic works,” said Rogers. “When they were doing that $36 million temporary project, they weren’t fixing Oleander and College, it was just temporary, and they also had talked about 5 laneing Kerr Avenue down to Oleander, which would have made it even more of mess. You can solve two roads’ problem with one money and that’s the initial reason I run for city council.”
And even though what was happening on the streets in his own neighborhood was his initial reason to enter the council race, Rogers says he just wants to make his community better anyway he can.
“Over the years we’ve seen a lot of changes, and one thing is for sure, Wilmington is going to keep growing and we need to prepare for it, I think better than we have been,” said Rogers.
Election Day is November 3 but early voting begins Thursday.
