CANDIDATE PROFILE: Frank Madonna plans to tackle traffic problems
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — There are many issues city council candidate Frank Madonna hopes to tackle if he’s elected, but one of the biggest is the issue of traffic in Wilmington.
Madonna believes arbitrary development is a major problem in the city and does more harm than good — like causing more traffic.
“[It’s being done] without any understanding of what the traffic implications are, what the green space implications are or what the environmental implications are,” said Madonna.
He believes a stronger emphasis on developing preexisting structures, such as the Water Street Deck downtown, are more sustainable for the future. Madonna also thinks revitalizing downtown will make it more inviting for young people.
Youth education is also high on the candidate’s list. He believes crimes can be prevented by creating more programs aimed toward the city’s youth.
“We should do more for the younger people to keep them off the street and into programs that will keep them away from crime,” said Madonna.
As for crime, Madonna said adding more police officers can help manage Wilmington’s crime.
For Madonna, a new face and new voice can add new ideas to Wilmington’s City Council.
