Candidate Profile: New Hanover Co. Commission candidate Sid Causey

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Tonight we wrap up the last of our candidate profiles for New Hanover Co. Commission. Sid Causey is best known for his time serving as Sheriff, but he now wants to serve the county as commissioner.

“It’s my home and I love it, and I love the people, and any way that I can I want to improve it,” Causey said.

Causey is a familiar face in New Hanover County. He worked in law enforcement for decades, Including as Sheriff from 2002 until taking early retirement in 2009. Now Causey hopes voters will give him a new title as county commissioner.

“Been there done that,” Causey said. “I’ve been to just about every county commission meeting for the last eight years and their workshops, which I find Thursday before the Monday meeting, that’s where you really find out the nuts and bolts of the problems behind each agenda item.”

Causey is the only commission candidate born and raised in New Hanover County. He says that’s a major reason why he is running for commissioner, wanting to help his county remain the pride of southeastern North Carolina.

“I don’t want to be a senator or go to Raleigh or Washington,” he said. “I want to stay right here and try to help New Hanover County stay the best it can be.”

Like many candidates this election season Causey is worried about the economy, jobs and education. In his off time Causey enjoys the outdoors with his wife India, but he admits with the campaign coming to an end there has not been much free time in his schedule. He says the sacrifice is worth it, though, having faith that New Hanover County voters will elect him.

“I’m looking forward to November 2, and I’m certain that voters will have confidence in me as they have in the past,” Causey said.

Tomorrow we’ll begin with our candidate profiles for the 9th District state Senate seat. We’ll introduce you to Jim Leutze first, and on Wednesday we’ll introduce to Thom Goolsby.
