Canines for Service receives grant from local business

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Canines for Service announced it has been awarded a $20,000 grant investment from Live Oak Bank to support its programs.

The Live Oak Bank investment will help to continue the growth and expansion of Canines for Service. The grant will enable the organization’s efforts to provide an increased number of highly skilled service dogs to Veterans who have been injured or wounded serving our country, certify more Canines for Therapy teams to provide animal assisted therapy to the Greater Wilmington community, and assist local elementary school children who read below their grade level through the Canines for Literacy program.

Funds will also aid the Trainer Program, an 18 month course designed to teach Veterans and non-Veterans how to train quality service dogs.

“Canines for Service continues to touch the lives of people in the Wilmington community through our service dog and therapy dog programs,” said Rick Hairston, President and CEO.  “The financial support of Wilmington based company, Live Oak Bank, demonstrates their commitment to organizations making a difference in our community and is critical to our success.”
