Cape Fear breweries show support for Coast Guard families during shutdown

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Cape Fear Craft Beer Alliance Breweries are joining forces to support some special men and women.

Area breweries are collecting donations for local Coast Guard members. As the government shutdown continues, members of the Coast Guard are going without a paycheck.

Breweries around the Cape Fear are collecting gift cards and cash donations to help support these people and their families.

The owner of Wrighstville Beach Brewery says it’s time give back to those who help keep us safe.

“Everybody can agree on craft beer. You may or may not agree on what’s going on with the government shutdown, but everybody loves beer, right? So all of us are drop-off points for gift cards for Coast guard families,” said Jud Watkins, who owns Wrighstville Beach Brewery.

Watkins says you can go to any participating brewery to donate.
