Cape Fear, Brunswick Habitat for Humanity begin exploring potential merger

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity and Brunswick County Habitat for Humanity have begun exploring a potential merger, with both organizations entering a formal due diligence process to evaluate whether combining operations would strengthen their mission across southeastern North Carolina.
The boards of directors for both affiliates recently voted to move forward with the review. Officials say the process is designed to gather information, assess potential benefits and challenges, and determine whether a merger would better serve families and communities in the region.
Habitat for Humanity International’s mergers team will assist both organizations during the evaluation.
Leaders emphasized that no merger has been approved and no final decision has been made. If the organizations decide to move forward after completing the due diligence process, the boards of both affiliates would need to approve the merger, followed by final approval from Habitat for Humanity International.
“Both boards believe it is important to thoughtfully evaluate opportunities that could strengthen our ability to serve families and communities in the years ahead,” said Marlowe Foster, president and CEO of Cape Fear Habitat for Humanity.
Christine Luciano, executive director of Brunswick County Habitat for Humanity, said the process is focused on determining whether a merger would help the organizations better fulfill their mission.
Both affiliates say they will continue normal operations throughout the review, including home construction, homeownership programs, volunteer opportunities, fundraising efforts and ReStore operations.
