Cape Fear Community College Donates Wigs to the American Cancer Society

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Community College cosmetology students donated 12 hand-made wigs to the American Cancer Society in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness month.

The students hand-wove the wigs last week with real hair in a variety of styles and delivered them on Monday.

Rachel Urban with the American Cancer Society says, “Thousands of women in North Carolina are diagnosed with cancer every year and a lot of time to know some of the side effects of cancer treatment is hair loss, so women always need new ways to make sure that they feel better as they’re going through cancer treatment.”

More than 52,000 people in North Carolina were diagnosed with cancer last year according to the American Cancer Society.
