Fans Honoring Dolly Parton

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Nearly a week after the death of Dolly Parton, fans in the Cape Fear region gathered Sunday to celebrate the country music icon’s life and legacy.

A celebration of life was held at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation, where dozens of families came together to honor Parton and share their love for her music.

The event, held from 2 to 4 p.m., invited guests to listen to Parton’s music, work on coloring pages and dress up in Dolly-inspired outfits.

Guests could also enjoy Dolly-themed snacks, play games and share a few words about what Parton meant to them.

For Kaylie Norris, Parton’s music has been a part of her life since childhood.

“She meant the world to me. I grew up listening to her music,” Norris said. “My first album was the ‘Backwoods Barbie’ album. I begged Mom when it first came out, ‘Can I please have it? Can I please, have it?’”

The gathering gave local fans a chance to remember Parton not only as a legendary performer, but as an artist whose music and personality touched generations of fans.
