Cape Fear Garden Club members decorate hats for annual Azalea Garden Tour

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Azalea Festival kicks off five weeks from today. This morning dozens of women gathered to put the finishing touches on their garden hats for one of the biggest events during festival week.

Members of the Cape Fear Garden Club worked on their garden hats at the New Hanover County Arboretum.

During next month’s Azalea Festival, these women will be sitting in 12 gardens during the Cape Fear Garden Club’s annual Azalea Garden Tour greeting guests and showing southern hospitality.

At today’s workshop, the women brought in ribbons, flowers and other items to decorate their hats.

“We take pride in doing the gardens, and we’ve been doing it for many, many, many years,” Cape Fear Garden Club member Dianne Lynch said. “We want to represent the whole town and we feel like we show our best self to the town when we have the festival.”

The Azalea Garden Tour runs at gardens around New Hanover County April 13-15.
