Cape Fear nonprofit hosts school counselors, principals day to promote student success
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — School counselors and principals from across the Cape Fear Region came together to collaborate on how to better serve students and share opportunities for growth.
Mt. Calvary Center for Leadership Development is a nonprofit based in Southeastern North Carolina. It works to support youth with various programs and resources.
“As a growing and continually expanding nonprofit, we are committed to helping all of the citizens of Southeastern North Carolina-particularly our students,” said Dr. Jimmy T. Tate, president of Mt. Calvary. “It was wonderful to have representatives from New Hanover, Duplin, and Pender County Schools meet with us and we look forward to offering many more programs and specially tailored classes based on the recent feedback we have been receiving from community partners and educators.
Mt. Calvary hosted area school counselors and principals on Wednesday from throughout the region to share plans on the upcoming expanded opportunities and also discuss how they could provide greater collaboration in offering what is needed for students.
“I was pleased to learn about the expanding youth programs being offered by Mt. Calvary. We are also appreciative to be able to offer our input and share other ways our students can be directly supported with outreach and specially focused classes and academies including tutoring and test preparation,” said Gary Brown, Assistant Principal at Wallace-Rose Hill School.
Representatives from New Hanover, Duplin, and Pender County were at the conference to learn from one another.
“The importance of external partnerships to assist and help our students is essential. We look forward to continuing to learn more about these opportunities to facilitate ultimate student success,” said Bobby Garcia, Hoggard High School Assistant Principal.
