Cape Fear Garden Club donates to community

More than $80,000 went out into the community Tuesday to make our area a little more beautiful.

The Cape Fear Garden Club distributed nearly $65,000 to about two dozen organizations. On top of that, $11,000 will go toward a UNC Wilmington scholarship and work on Battery Island. The money came from the 2008 Azalea Garden Tour, which had a record breaking year.

“This really is the icing on the cake when you get to see and be a part of distributing those funds back to the community,” said Cathy Poulos of the Garden Club.

Preparations are already underway for the 2009 Azalea Garden Tour. Twelve gardens will be on the tour. 15 dollar discount tickets will be available in January.
