Cape Fear Sevens Rugby Tournament wrapped up Sunday

The 35th Annual Cape Fear Sevens Rugby Tournament wrapped up Sunday at Ogden Park in New Hanover County. Fifty squads participated over the weekend, including a handful of international squads – some came from as far away as Africa.

In the men’s premier division, Life University defeated Northern Virginia 17 to 12 in overtime.

In the women’s championship, Northern Virginia beat Northeast Select 14 to 7.

Rugby continues to be a popular sport worldwide and there’s a good chance the sport will be added to the summer Olympic lineup in the year 2016.

The Cape Fear Sevens Rugby Tournament is a holiday weekend tradition. The tournament is always held the first weekend of July.
