Capital Power ends operations at power plant in Southport

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — It is the end of an era for a power plant that has served portions of southern Brunswick County for more than a decade.

Capital Power will official cease operations on Wednesday. The decision was made due to the expiration of the facility’s power purchase agreement with Duke Energy, which will not be renewed.

Capitol Power says they’re proud to have served Southport and Brunswick County for the past 15 years.

This is not the Brunswick Nuclear Plan which remains in operation.
