Captains still not happy with proposed rules
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — There weren’t very many positive words for the Marine Fisheries Commission at a public meeting Wednesday night.
Charter boat captains are not happy with some proposed rules, especially with their log books. Captains would have to record what they see and catch.
They say they don’t know what the commission will do with the information, and they worry they’ll be shut down because of it. Captains also said they just don’t think they’ll have time to fill out the logs.
“It’s going to be a burden because we’re supposed to pay attention to our clients, make sure they’re safe and everything like that,” Robbie Wolfe, a charter boat captain said. “And, we’re supposed to remember how many fish we catch and everything like that. There’s no way that’s going to be accurate.”
Although commissioners didn’t make any decisions at Wednesday’s meeting, according to its press release, the commission is scheduled to give final approval to the logbook rule and other amendments.
The commission meets again at the downtown Wilmington Hilton Thursday at 9 a.m., and Friday at 8:30 a.m.
