One dead after three-county car chase

One man is dead tonight after leading police on a car chase through three counties.

According to the New Hanover Police Department, the chase began with an attempted robbery at gunpoint in the parking lot of Ronnie’s Middle Sound Inn on Market Street.

Two women say the suspect demanded money.

The women told the suspect that they didn’t have any money. The suspect fled and the women called 911.

The New Hanover Police department said they received the call at around 3 a.m. Sunday morning.

Later an officer saw the suspect’s car and he led them on a chase through New Hanover, Pender and eventually Onslow County where it all ended.

The suspect has been identified as 29-year-old Nathan Cantazaro

He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The victims’ names have not been released but they were unharmed in the robbery.

The case is still under investigation.
