Carolina and Kure Beach leaders allow for beach access, but under certain conditions
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — County leaders loosened restrictions by allowing people back on the beaches, but with limitations.
For many, there is no place more calming than the beach.
“The weather out here is really good. I’m enjoying getting out here in the water,” Local Jeremiah Vess expressed.
Despite the guidelines, “We’re definitely keeping it moving,” Vess said.
Last week Carolina and Kure Beach leaders announced they would reopen, but not completely.
Beach goers must be doing individual, non-stationary activities, which include biking, jogging, walking, swimming, and surfing/water sports, anything but sitting or standing.
Leaders also said there should not be groups of more than ten people together, all while practicing social distancing.
Beachgoer Aiden Badulis said leaders are off to a good start.
“I think they’re reasonable to at least let people out here, but still keep the coronavirus down without having another spike,” Badulis stated.
There is also no public parking or restroom access at both beaches. Benji Calabria said it could be why the beach was not as full as it normally is around this time of the year.
“People still have concerns over coronavirus, and they’ll know if people are going to be practicing social distancing,” Calabria added.
Leaders said they will keep the restrictions in line until further notice, and even though Carolina Beach is now open, Freeman Park remains closed.
