Carolina Beach council says no to bike week
CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Will they or won’t they? The talk of Carolina Beach is whether to invite bikers and start Bike Week festivities here.
Some in favor of the cycle celebration say it will bring a much needed economic boost. The town council put it on its agenda tonight and invited residents to come out and be heard. Several dozen people did just that.
After weighing both sides the council voted: a resounding no.
“We voted unanimously not to put out an invitation, but private business can do what they want to do,” Councilman Dan Wilcox said after the 5-0 vote against the endorsement. “We have bikers here this week. We decided it’s not something the town wanted to endorse.”
The town council listened to the input, but decided instead of any boost to tourism, they would be risking goodwill gained in the money spent to bring families back to the beach. So for now no bike week at Carolina Beach.
