Carolina Beach is considered a perfect spot.

Marinalife.com ranked Carolina Beach fourth out of 12 locations for cruising anchorage.

The website called it “an attractive beach town with quick access to the Cape Fear River.” Other criteria includes beach access, the number of marinas, intracoastal waterway access and things to do ashore.
