Casino-themed fundraiser in Wilmington supports veterans during Memorial Day weekend
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Memorial Day weekend fundraiser in Wilmington will support local veterans programs and help fund the Southeast North Carolina Veterans Parade.
The second annual “Bet on Vets Casino Night” is scheduled for Saturday from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at The Eagles Dare in downtown Wilmington.
Organizers say the event will feature casino-style games including blackjack, roulette and craps. Participants purchase tickets that include “play money” to use at the tables, along with food and drink. Chips can later be exchanged for raffle tickets and prizes.
Si Cantwell, organizer of the Southeast North Carolina Veterans Parade, said proceeds support both the annual parade and year-round veteran-focused initiatives.
Funds raised through previous efforts have supported organizations including suicide prevention and veteran resilience programs, according to event organizers.
The event also coincides with Memorial Day weekend, which Cantwell said adds significance to the fundraiser.
Tickets are available in advance and at the door. More information is available at sencveteransparade.com.
Organizers said the event is open to the public and will also include food service from a food truck.
The Southeast North Carolina Veterans Parade is held annually on the Saturday closest to Veterans Day.
