Castle Hayne incorporation bill gets final OK, heads to ballot

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Castle Hayne is ready to become its own town, and the state legislature agrees.

This afternoon the Senate signed off on a final change to the bill to give Castle Hayne residents the right to vote to incorporate. Both the House and Senate had unanimously passed the bill.

Castle Hayne must get a majority vote of residents to officially become its own town. Incorporation organizer say they are confident they’ll get the votes.

“Our group plans to mobilize and go out and do the same thing we did with the petition: go door to door with publications and try to answer all the questions that the people have,” Castle Hayne Steering Committee Chair Tom Radewicz said.

Castle Hayne already has its own volunteer fire department and post office. Organizers say the area will be ready to function if incorporated.
