Castle Hayne group considers Titan support

Monday night, members of a Castle Hayne community action group took up the issue of the proposed Titan America Cement Plant.

Members of the Castle Hayne Steering Committee decided not to take a position on the issue.
They want to hold a public meeting to get as much input as possible.

Last week the public relations company for Carolinas Cement, a branch of Titan, released a statement saying the steering committee supported the proposed plant, which it later retracted. That came after confusion over a letter committee chair Tom Radewicz wrote after visiting a cement plant in Roanoke, Virginia to gather facts.

“I was not saying if the regulatory agents permitted the operation that we would support it, I didn’t say that. I just said we would put our faith in the hands of the regulatory agencies, and if they issued a permit, they issued a permit,” Radewicz said.

Within the next few weeks, the committee will discuss organizing the public input meeting.
