Castle Hayne takes steps to incorporate town
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Castle Hayne residents are trying for a second time to incorporate their town.
Members of the Castle Hayne Incorporation Committee went to Raleigh today to drop of a petition supporting incorporation. The petition includes nearly twice as many signatures as organizers needed.
Now the ball is in the General Assembly’s court. Legislators can vote on whether to legally make Castle Hayne a town or let voters decide.
“There’s a lot of people talking about it, and now that it’s gotten to this point I believe there’s going to be a lot more talk going on and a lot more people on board,” Castle Hayne resident Willie Sidberry said. “Second time around. It looks like it’s going to be worth everything we’ve gone through so far.”
Residents last tried to incorporate Castle Hayne in 1999. They did not have enough support from the community.
