Catching up with Chucky Brown; Brunswick County native is still an NBA scout

CHARLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — Chucky Brown is currently in the middle of his 5th season as a scout for the NBA New Orleans Pelicans. For the Pelicans he’s a college scout, which means he gets a front row seat for college games throughout the season, but for a variety of reasons Brown has not scouted a UNCW home game in awhile. The last time he did that was four years ago. “I look at college kids who may have pro potential, but they want you to see the pro game because the speed of the game is different.”

The former NBA pro, college standout at NC State and North Brunswick graduate attended the Charlotte Hornets-Cleveland Cavaliers game over the weekend. “They want you to see the pro game,” Brown told WWAY. “They don’t want you to see too much of college, you think a guy can play, but he really can’t play. As a college scout we’re required to see at least 3 pro games in person a month, I probably see a little more than that.”

The pride of Navassa, a small Brunswick County town, played for 12 different NBA teams.
Brown suited up for Cleveland, Los Angeles, New Jersey, Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, Milwaukee, Atlanta, Charlotte, San Antonio, Golden State and Sacramento.
