Causey’s son pleads guilty in federal court

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The son of a former New Hanover County Sheriff and current County Commission candidate pleaded guilty today in federal court. Brian Causey admitted to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud. His father is Sid Causey, who was sheriff from 2002 until 2009 and is currently a Democratic Party nominee for County Commissioner.

Prosecutors say Brian Causey and three other men were involved in a money-making property scheme about a decade ago. The US District Court clerk’s office in Greenville says the younger Causey is out of jail under $250,000 unsecured bond. His sentencing is set for November.
