CCSO: Man arrested for drug and gun charges

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office said a man faces several charges following a search in the Green Acres area.
It happened on Thursday, May 29.
A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said that following surveillance, the Vice-Narcotics Special Operations Unit stopped and searched a man suspected of criminal activity.
Officials added that a K9 was used to get the man to follow instructions from law enforcement.
CCSO said Dalvin Smith was in possession of narcotics and an “AR-15 style pistol.”
The spokesperson said a preliminary evaluation showed that the firearm had been assembled with fully automatic capabilities and was loaded with an extended magazine containing armor-piercing rounds.
Federal authorities are now looking at the firearm.
Dalvin Smith has been charged with possession of a weapon of mass destruction, two counts of trafficking opium or heroin, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute a Schedule II controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Smith was taken into custody and given a $250,000 bond.
